SANTA BARBARA COUNTY - The Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) is hosting two countywide education job fairs: one on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 from 9 - 11 am in the SBCEO Auditorium and one on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023 from 9 - 11 am in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District Souza Center. Both events are free and open to the public.

The job fairs will have representatives from school districts across the county and from colleges and universities with credential programs. There will also be credentials specialists to provide advice on pursuing a career as a credentialed education professional, such as a teacher, speech language pathologist, or school nurse.

“These events developed from a collaborative commitment among school districts and higher education institutions to elevate the field of education after significant impacts on staffing exacerbated by the pandemic,” said County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Salcido.

SBCEO Associate Superintendent of Human Resources Mari Minjarez Baptista added: “We have experienced a tremendous staffing shortage in education. These job fairs provide people with the opportunity to learn about rewarding and stable careers in education with great employee benefits.”

In addition to teachers and instructional support staff, schools need professionals in information technology, accounting, human resources, maintenance, and other fields. Not all jobs require a teaching credential or even a college degree.

New to the job fairs this year is the opportunity to speak with representatives regarding employment in preschool settings and to learn about financial support that may be available for those who want to work but may be struggling with the cost of childcare.

"There are many talented people in our community who would be an asset working for our schools," said Santa Maria-Bonita School District Superintendent Dr. Darren McDuffie. "Partnering with the Santa Barbara County Education Office and other local school districts for this event provides us with an opportunity to find candidates who best fit our needs and provides job seekers with exciting career options.”

Be a part of the future of our community serving children and their families. Join us at one or both events and find out about the career opportunities that exist in the inspiring field of education and how they can benefit you.
